Zero culture and economy, brutal weather, poverty - 8/24/2021
Moved to Nixa from CA during the poandemic and moved back home again. At first it was beautiful in the fall climate. Then came the brutal midwest winter and -20F. Our pipes froze, our house flooded, we had no sewer for 2 weeks. The town is very small with little to no culture apart from a BBQ joint and a strip mall or two. Gas stations and Walmart are the only places to visit where people will chat to you. People are very standoffish. Locals are suspicious of outsiders and if you are not a fundamentalist christian it is hard to make friends.
The main street is not really a main street. Very few business. However as its a town in the middle of nowhere it is somewhat safe but we felt safer in our homes in LA or San Diego having never been burgled there.
The villians from Springfield close by travel to Nixa for home invasions and larceny quite often. The law enforcement do their best but are underfunded with the whole unfunded the police thing creeping in. A lot of very low Read More

Avoid at all costs. Ignorant. Crime is high - 8/13/2021
Out of state resident opinion: Moved here from out of state. Weather is consistently humid. Rains every few days. Expect damage to your home and car yearly from flooding and hail. Tornados in late spring and freezing rain and ice all winter. A cartel of realtors will bleed you dry during your home purchase. The locals can not afford the list prices. When you sell you better get an out of state sucker to sell at 100% of appraised value. The appraiser, realtors and banks here are in on this unethical process. Based on the initial impression unpacking, not very christian at all. Locals are all about being fake and espouse holier than though attitudes. Behind your back they gossip and begrudge successful wealthy people. Never met so many ignorant racists in all my life and I am white. People here are content to stuff there faces with junk food at the various low quality restaurants and fast food joints. There is zero culture and zero support for community business. Walmart is where its Read More

Nixa ia a great place to live. - 6/19/2019
We moved here from the west coast over 15 years ago and love it. The first thing our family noticed was how friendly and helpful the people were here. People out west don't talk to you unless they know you. Strangers in stores here will just strike up a conversation like you are old friends.. Neighbors are friendly and willing to help. Crime is low and there is no part of this city that I would worry about being in alone as a woman at night.
Property values are low. We were able to afford a house on 3 acres here, which we never could have done back west. Our property taxes are much lower also.
There are always new people moving in from different parts of the country. We have friends who have moved here recently from Colorado, California, and Oregon. Many people we know were attracted to Nixa because of the great school system.
Being situated between Springfield and Branson give us access to lots of shopping, restaurants, and entertainment opportunities. Read More

THINK TWICE!!!! - 5/25/2019
We lived in 4 different states this is the worse by far. Spring/Summer tornadoes, thunderstorms, flooding, causing destruction and death.
People are ignorant , rude if you are not from here. Why? I don't how many times we were asked where we are from, because we have a northern accent. Better be baptist like hillbilly music and get a Mississippi accent. A prominent medical person that works here said he hears my sentiments all the time. People are not welcome THINK.  Read More

Nixa is very conservative - 9/4/2010
Nixa is a great place to live if you are pretty much conservative. The police have their eyes open all the time and really watch the town. If you like diversity, this is not the town for you. They will approach you and ask what Church you will be going to or invite you to theirs. It's close to Springfield and not to far from Branson. Ozark is a little town not too far from Nixa. Nixa has a Walmart, grocery stores, places to eat, and plenty of gas stations. You would be kind of in the middle of it Read More
