Low cost of living - 2/14/2008

Poplar Bluff is a good place to raise a family, especially if you are politically conservative and religious. The cost of living is very low on virtually every category and there is little crime. Of course, there are trade-offs. The area is relatively isolated, located about 2.5 to 3 hours from the major cities of St. Louis and Memphis. Shopping and cultural activities are limited. Employment opportunities are probably pretty good for a town of just under 20,000, but wages are a bit depressed. The people here are hard-working, but many don't have as much appreciation for the finer things of life as some of us would like. Unfortunately, the community does not support education as it should, but the schools do a good job with what they have. If you like to hunt and fish, this might be the place for you.[read more...]
