Police Force will be no help to you - 10/2/2010

Yes we were and are being robbed harrassed threatened by two crazy drug addicts.Police do not arrest people driving on the revoked list, while under the influence of drugs,in a vechile that they have no permission to drive.Even when there is illegal meth. in the vechicle. All people who are preforming illegal and dangerous life styles should live here because the criminals are the only safe and protected ones living in Brick.Dont believe the hype,I believe they just throw it all under the sand.Thats the only reason for the good safe rating.I live here for 30 years and I am telling you it is not safe for the adverage person only the criminals will benefit here.[read more...]

Youth, Drugs, Gangs, & Crime in Brick Township - 4/28/2010

Some of the growing problems in Brick Township are with drugs, crime, and gangs, which no one seems to want to acknowledge. Teens and 20-somethings are heavily involved in drugs and gang activity. Just look at the tags around town and watch the teens. The high schoolers seem to have their own drug network set up. Deliveries are made by car with a simple cell phone call. This is more than kids smoking the occasional joint - this activity takes place on a daily basis, operates openly, and with seemingly near impunity. This once beautiful shore town is going downhill fast, and one day the residents will wake up and ask 'What happened'?[read more...]

Brick and Transportation - 2/9/2010

First--The population is NOT 44K; it's 78K spread out over 26 square miles, so it's pretty cramped. Second--Transportation's not so great; you need a car, although there is a Township bus that goes around the town on certain days of the week that takes you to the Plaza for shopping or other shopping centers. It does NOT take you to your doctor; for that you need to contact a taxi. Third--The climate is hot and humid in the summer, cold and snowy in the winter. Fourth--Crime is somewhat minimal, meaning that most crime is ID theft, vandalism and other assorted misdemeanors. We were voted #1,2,and 3 being the safest city in America over the past eight years, so that does count for something. Fifth--The current economy is just as lousy as the rest of the state or country; jobs are scarce, unless you want to work in a hamburger joint. We have NO industrial complexes here, so either you have to commute northward or go to the next town over for light industry. Sixth--There is NOTHING to do in the winter. It is VERY boring here and always has been. Movies, ice skating, shopping. That's it, except maybe some school plays, football, and the library. Summertime, you have the beach and Brick owns two of them on the ocean, plus Windward Beach, which is free (at least SOMETHING here is free!), plus they do an annual SummerFest. Seventh--Education? We have 13 schools, ranging from Kindergarten to two High Schools. Cost is expensive tax-wise and every year it goes up. Eighth--Health, we have a shortage of doctors (Primary), and one hospital. Ninth--Housing is either private family or a few condominiums or a few apartment buildings, all of which are VERY expensive. Tenth--Politics? Don't get me started on this one! It is VERY much a cronyism system, nepotism and although many have tried throughout the years to change it, they are defeated by those who have been in the "system" and see to it that no one else is in the "elite" circle. A previous mayor was arrested for accepting a bribe and put into prison; others that were part of his "team" got away with it. Eleventh--Quality of Life is okay; Water is clean, although heavily bleached (city water); we have a few parks, a reservoir that has a walking path, we're three miles from the Atlantic Ocean, there are a few walking paths that lead into parks and that's about it. Twelfth--Religion--We have several different denominations around to choose from. Overall, I'd say don't waste your time living here: too expensive and not much to offer for the taxes you pay. I've lived here for 50 years, so I know what I'm talking about. Submitted 2/9/10[read more...]

#3 In the USA as being the Safest City to Live in, - 2/13/2008

TOWN: First, our population currently stands at 76,000, not what you have written here. Second, the taxes will kill you here. We own a 70' x 165' property and are paying $4,600 per year; soon to go up, since we just had the reassessment done last month (January, 2008). But even with the safest recognition according to Morgan Quitno Press to live in for the entire country, the politics will annoy you to no end. It's been this way for 60 years: full of nepotism, cronyism and "who you know" not what you know if you want to work in this town. We are regulated to death here with antiquated ideas and ordinances. One petty idea: you can't feed the birds on your property. Silly, isn't it? Okay, it IS safe and sort of like Mayberry, RFD, but still, the politics will annoy you. They have it sewn up so tight that anyone else that wants to change the political platform here and have a new and fresh start here will NEVER get in...the cronies here make sure of that. STATE: Once my mother goes, we're out of here. And the entire state of New Jersey is so expensive to live with taxes, tolls and thanks to our new governor Corzine (who conveniently slipped in at the last minute last year) the "exit tax" when you sell your house and move out of state, we can barely get by here. His new "exit tax" is a kick in the pants seat on your way out. He is also NOT business friendly, so any company looking to do business here will have so many regulations, it won't be worth it to set up shop here. If you can help it, stay out of New Jersey!! Do NOT move here to live. 2/13/08[read more...]
