Despite the Bad Reputation, Western NY is a good p - 5/11/2008

Sure, we occasionally have some bad weather and the tax/utility costs are excessive, but overall, we get a lot for our total cost of living. With the cities of Buffalo and Niagara Falls (U.S. & Canada) nearby, we have excellent cultural resources. The many colleges and universities also contribute to the wide variety and high quality. Amherst is less than 10 miles from Lake Erie and the Niagara River and less than 15 miles from Lake Ontario for unparalleled summer recreation opportunities. Winter recreation/sports are less than 20 miles to the South. If you want it or want to do it, it's probably right here or nearby - weather permitting. All in all, pretty nice.[read more...]

The way I see it, you need heater through the winter and an air conditioner for most of the summer.[read more...]

Lets not forget 8hrs away from NY City, also were not that far from ohio. The only catch is you have to love the snow! Good Luck and may you find your dream home there's plenty to choose from and great deals are available. I suggest you seek out a great realtor. My recommendation Hunt Realty (John Mitchell). I have just recently moved to Western New York, Amherst in particular and have been so delightfully surprised to find that the entire area is like the best kept secret in the world! The cost of living is less than the national average, 2 great lakes at my doorstep, all the amenities of a major city, including pro teams, great people and wonderful cultural events. I'm sold on the whole area.[read more...]
