Baldwin's decline - 8/3/2010

In the 20 years I have lived here the taxes have more than doubled (almost tripled) yet the school system is declining. Families around me are considering home schooling or private school. Many parents drive their children to school because they don't consider the school buses safe. There is no downtown shopping district in Baldwin. Many of the stores have shut down. And many of the roads need to be repaved. And although we have a large park we don’t have a pool, a dog run or even picnic tables in the shade. Great Location and Activity Community Make This a - 8/17/2009

Baldwin Harbor (a part of Baldwin) has easy access to New York City (about 45 minutes by train) and Long Island's East End and North Fork Wine Country (a little more than one hour by car). So, taking day trips to interesting places is easy. We are right on the water (Baldwin Bay), and there is a well-kept park open to all in the town. Tennis, a children's playground, soccer fields, basketball, baseball are all there. Jones Beach is 15 minutes away. Baldwin is an active community with many opportunities to participate. A middle class community with a diverse population provides a great foundation for children. Having participated in a community group's focus group of recent alumni, I learned that the kids have a very strong feeling of cohesiveness, appreciate the school system and the teachers and feel lucky that they have lived in Baldwin.[read more...]

Local taxes - 12/2/2007

I have lived her for for 28 years and I really like it here, there are many attractions, lovely parks and awesome beaches nearby. The biggest problem we have here are school and real estates taxes. They go up every year and I now pay almost $10,000.00 per year, next year it will be over that mark. People like myself are moving out in large numbers and going south, I will be moving to western NC soon, because of this out of control taxing that shows no sign of abating.[read more...]
