Gardiner is a township, with a small hamlet (village) with the same name. It is generally equidistant from Kingston, Newburgh, Poughkeepsie. The township extends across all or part of several zip codes (12525,12561,12589) and includes portions of three school districts (New Paltz, Wallkill, Pine Bush), two fire districts, etc. etc. The general reference to Gardiner often refers to a place somewhere in the township, not necessarily the hamlet.
