Hamburg is a great place to live and raise a famil - 2/26/2008

I lived near or in Hamburg all my life, and had to move out to TN three years ago. I really miss Hamburg! It's a relatively small community (a suburb of Buffalo) with beautiful homes, low housing costs, low crime (excellent police presence), great retail ammentities, kind people, and excellent public schools. We lived in the Village of Hamburg and could walk to schools, restaurants, etc... The summers are delightful. The only down side is the long winters, but they can be beautiful too. The Village has a free public outdoor iceskating rink. If you are moving to Buffalo, take a look at Hamburg. My work commute into Buffalo every day was 20/25 minutes. People might think taxes are high, but the emergency services/police/schools are all excellent quality. You get what you pay for here.[read more...]

Retired TO Hamburg, NY FROM Tampa, FL because of Q - 4/12/2007

Because of Quality of Life. MOST of the reasons for which you chose the Best Bets for Young Retirees are found in this suburb of Buffalo, NY. We lived in Tampa, FL for over 25 years and would NOT recommend any area in FL in which to RETIRE. My spouse & I are young retirees who chose Hamburg, NY for quality of life, education (MANY wonderful colleges/universities), extremely reasonable housing costs, cost of living (taxes still being an issue) is reasonable, wonderful restaurants (NOT CHAINS), wonderful small towns, the arts, history, wonderful architecture, VERY short commute time, great sports teams AND the WEATHER - yes, the weather. The area really GETS A BAD RAP about the weather - we have great springs, fantastic, mild summers, extremely wonderful falls, and the winters are NOT AS BAD AS PORTRAYED in the national media!! We are a wonderful jewel that many people don't realize exist. The population in the western new york area is extremely generous, giving, welcoming, like a BIG small town & one of the reasons that we chose to RETIRE HERE FROM Tampa, FL! [read more...]
