Hampton Bays - 10/20/2009

I have lived in Hampton Bays for the past 30 years. I moved out to the island from Queens, NY as a teen with my family. Hampton Bays is a small town in Southampton that has it all if you like sun in the summer. We have the finest ocean beaches, bays and even a lake. Summer is congested as it is a tourist area - but the best time of year is Fall and Spring. Winter is at a standstill. Nothing to do, but the weather is not terrible. Every few years -maybe a blizzard, but as we are nestled between salt waters, not a lot of snow accumulation. Jan. and Feb. are the coldest months, with only about 1 -2 weeks of below zero degrees. Low crime rate, good schools (new schools being built to accomodate the increase in population). The area used to be mainly for summer homes and/or retired people - now has a decent population of young families. Employment is a bit of an issue. Most people either are self-employed, travel west for work. Cost of living is high. 1000 sq ft home approximately $380,000. All in all a nice, safe place to live if you can afford it.[read more...]
