I live in Harbor Green in Massapequa. Over the years I have seen the neighborhood change from a quaint neighborhood with normal sized houses on appropriate sized lots to a neighborhood full of cheaply built McMansions. At the same time the cost of living has gone up and up and the taxes continue their climb ever upward. Local and school taxes are ridiculous and are causing many people to leave this area. I intend to leave within 3 years and when I tell neighbors they ask but where will I find such a nice place to live? Well if you check out Massapequa on Sperlings you will find terrible air quality, high cost of living, weather is ok if you like high humidity, superfund sites score is 10 ( 1 - 100, 100 being best), and on and on. Hopefully Sperlings will help me find a nice place to retire to. [read more...]

Not as safe as it used to be... - 2/5/2010

Heroin is a huge problem. Groups of teenagers roam the streets at night with apparently nothing else to do. My mother-in-law was car jacked (she escaped) while sitting at an auto ATM on Sunrise Highway. The suspects were later arrested in Queens after robbing others.[read more...]
