Relocation Debate - 8/20/2011
I have lived in Westchester county, NY since I was born. From Yonkers in the '80's, to Mt. Kisco for the past 4 years. After visiting California this year, my girlfriend an I are seriously considering moving west. After reading what a lot of people from San Diego are saying on this site though, it's discouraging. It seems to me people everywhere really just get fed up with where they live. I don't see any real positives to living in NY. The weather basically sucks year 'round. Winters are freezing cold with snow and ice storms. Summers are brutally hot and humid. If you're lucky you may get about 4 weeks total between spring and fall that are really nice. The cost of living is high, the people are rude. Why am I still here? I have read here that people in San Diego are rude too. We couldn't believe how nice people were to us when we visited. Complete strangers saying hello and have a nice day with a smile. I couldn't believe how quiet the streets were. I don't think I heard a single person honk their horn. This seemed true in just about everywhere we visited in SoCal. So, is SoCal just bad compared to places these reviewers have visited, or am I just jaded from one vacation out west? You can't say beautiful weather year 'round gets boring. Try dealing with 10 straight days of clouds and rain followed by 10 days of sweltering humidity. I just can't do it anymore.[read more...] |
