Good for some people - 3/24/2008
I grew up here and I'd say, the best thing Shandaken has going for it is that it is that it has not yet been taken over by strip malls and fast food. There is an interesting clash of people... those who have been living there a long time and love it for its beauty and slow pace.... and second home owners who think its beautiful, and want to build a big houses there..... and people who want o develop it. Cost of housing has gotten ridiculous. My parents rent doubled in about 10 years of living there.
There is not a whole lot to do there either... except for going skiing,hiking and tubing down the river. Lot of quirky characters around, but for the most part everyone is pretty quiet.[read more...] |
