Good and Bad - 7/14/2010
Moved back here last year from CA. as my Dad was sick. Should not have bought a house!! The prices are good, but if you do not want to stay forever, it's not a good place, for appreciation in the price of your home. Yes, food is cheap, yes, tax are ridiculously HIGH!!! I pay $6500 a year on a 160K house. My 400K house in San Diego County, CA had the taxes still at $2200, where they were when we bought it 5 years before. They have good laws limiting the increase in property taxes, and with my veterans exemptions, we were only paying about $1400. That difference buys one heck of a lot of food and clothing. The weather here is terrible as anyone knows, the winters unbearable for anyone with any medical issues (like me). We will go back to CA (or AZ) next spring, and the weather will be gratefully appreciated. No, it's not all about the weather, but when you are in your 60's and a photographer, this place just doesn't cut it. Oh yeah - the people here really are not much different.[read more...] |
