A "little" slice of PARADISE - 11/6/2009

We relocated to the Akron area for work and initially rented in a commercial area on the west side of the city. We decided when looking for a house we wanted an active "quality of life" neighborhood. We wanted a neighborhood where people walk, jog, run, and any other outdoor activities just a bonus. We discovered a "little" slice of PARADISE in the village of Silver Lake, Ohio. It is about 10 minutes north of downtown Akron and about 30 minutes south of downtown Cleveland (cultural events and city life very close). Silver Lake is a village nestled between Stow and Cuyahoga Falls at the base of Cuyahoga National Forest. The bike trails in this area are SPECTACULAR many running right through Silver Lake. The walkers, dog walkers, joggers, and runners are EVERYWHERE and always offering a friendly "hello". The BEST kept secret about Silver Lake is the "Lake Priveledges". WOW! If you buy a home here make sure you have Lake Priveledges - which includes a well manicured beach and swimming area with full staff of lifeguards; a boat house with paddle boats, row boats, kayaks, and sailboats; playground and picnic area; volleyball courts, baseball fields, and some of the nicest tennis courts in the area. The village services and police department are top notch at maintaining and monitoring this beautiful community. The garden club makes every entry way beautiful year round. Silver Lake is a just a fantastic community for retirees, mid-lifers, and young families with kids. Village events can range from Christmas Tree Lighting, Art Festival, Tri-Athalons, and more. The friendliness of this community is second to none. I would highly recommend if moving to this area visit Silver Lake. Houses maintain their value because of all the above mentioned amenities - higher priced homes on the water can cost up to $1M and modest homes in the village can range from $200K up - truly a "little" slive of PARADISE.[read more...]

Life in Silver Lake, Ohio - 7/30/2009

Grew up in Hudson, but as a adult, I like Silver Lake better. The homes are uniquely architected, nicely landscaped, the people go out of their way to be friendly, the Lake facilities are wonderful. It's near retail and expressways to Akron and Cleveland, yet so peaceful. Trees like it here, dogs like it here, a wide variety of birds and other wee wild beasties are seen constantly (saw our first redheaded woodpecker pair the other day) - and humans, once they live here for a while, tend to want to stay for decades. That says something. Houses generally sell quickly when they come on the market. We have lived for two and a half years near but not on the Lake and love walking around the neighborhood for exercise, enjoying the water by the boathouse at dawn or sunset. Drive through some time and you'll see what I mean.[read more...]
