Beautiful, Small Town Atmosphere - 7/13/2011

I noticed a review and thought it not entirely accurate. Enterprise is a small town, and its beautiful. Summers are mild, with highs of 85 to 90. Winters moderately cold with lows of 15 to 18 degrees. Median winter temps in December & January are 27 degrees, with all other winter months above freezing. Winters do not start in September as stated by another review! Small amounts of snow may happen in October, but its usually November or December before you see much of any accumulation. AND its georgous with high granite mountains, beautiful rivers and lakes! Great for the outdoor sports enthusiast. People are friendly. and while conservative there are no fundamentalists to be seen! I grew up there and make yearly trips back to hike, hunt & fish (The Gran Ronde is famous for its steelhead & Wallowa lake has produced the world record Kokanee in 2010).[read more...]

Good place to live, with a catch. - 1/17/2010

Enterprise is an uninspiring town with inspiringly beautiful mountains to look at. It is a very pretty area, but with a catch. Winters are LONG and very COLD. Winter starts in September, with the first snowfall. Fall is mildly cold, but kids wear parkas over their Halloween costumes and go to organized parties instead of Trick-or-Treating because the temperatures are already in the teens at night. There isn't a lot of snow. The snow isn't deep enough for much skiing. If it warms up above freezing in January or February, you can forget exercising, unless you have indoor equipment. It becomes too icy to take walks. April is sleety, leading into a wet May and June. July and August are "summer", but act like spring. Then you are back to winter. It is a very nice, small community, with honest, friendly people. It is nice to go to the store and have people smile back instead of averting their eyes. You meet everyone you know at Safeway. It helps a lot if you are right-wing fundamentalist Christian. If not, it can be darned uncomfortable for a while.[read more...]
