Mover beware - 8/22/2009
I moved to Ontario when I was in high school. While there are several choices for elementary schools as well as a bilingual thriving charter school for children through fifth grade. There is a hospital in town and a community college that in the past has worked with high schoolers to get their associates degree at the same time as their hs diploma. It has been a few years since I was there so I am not sure if they still have that program going.
However, I was not particularly impressed with the rest of the town. There is a mall with two shops in it: sears and honks $1 store. The mall has plenty of space for other shops but nobody wants to lease space there. Also, coming from a county that prided themselves in education it was a hard blow to find that this town is the Malhuer County seat and yet they can hardly keep their tiny library open for a few hours a day, let alone hours when people can actually visit it.
Moreover, the people in Ontario as a whole are not ready or willing (whichever) to progress as a city. I know of a few people who tried to improve the city and were shot down because residents did not want change. Basically, Ontario is a dead end town with little to offer and nowhere to go. There are a few very good people there and if you like the smell of onions, Oreida provides a great perfume for the whole town. There is even an onion festival sometime during the summer. As far as things to do on a regular basis, there is one theatre, a bowling alley, and cow tipping, as well as socializing with everyone in town in the local wal-mart.
