Violent crime rate of 5? - 4/19/2009
I have no idea where this number came from. Lehighton is the only town I've ever lived in (or even visited) where I have absolutely no fears about taking my dog for a walk at 2 or 3am. There have been 3 murders in 40 years maybe, and only one of those was random, and it started as a burglary.[read more...] |

Nice little town, but . . . - 4/19/2009
I lived in Lehighton for the first 35 years of my life, then I finally had to get out. I was going nowhere. Lehighton is known for people being born and raised there and never leaving, so people couldn't actually believe that I left. If you don't have a job with the school district or at the hospital, your commute will be 20 miles at minimum. However, Lehighton has been expanding over the years because it is a rather cheap alternative to living in Allentown. My whole family is still in Lehighton so I visit about twice a year or so, and on every visit I like to check out what has changed, and the changes are usually minimal to nonexistent.
