Oconee Christian Academy - 9/26/2011
This is a great school I am currently a student there and am confident I receive a great education. My brother graduated from this school in 2006 and was accepted to The United States Naval Academy. In his first year at the Naval Academy he was tutoring other students there. He said "it is all the same stuff I did in my senior year" the academic education you receive at this school is phenomenal last year all students in the graduating class received a scholarship to college great school!

Move at your own risk - 3/10/2010
If you are looking for a place to die, then Seneca is perfect. You will die of boredom fairly quickly in this podunk town. We moved here in 2006 and I have hated it ever since. There are no nice restuarants, no place to go for entertainment and the only late night place open is Walmart. No variety of shopping places. The natives here do not want change, they love being podunkites and are not very accepting of "others". Their reply to change is: "we don't have no crime here now and we don't wont no change." They will be the first to tell you to "go back whur you done come from." They love calling people damned yankees even if you move here from Georgia. There are some nice people here, but it is rare to find a native who shows you kindness. Taxes are outrageous and don't be surprised if you buy a nice house only to realize you now live next to Ma & Pa Kettle or the Beverly Hillbillies. Walhalla & Westminster are even worse. So pack up your belongings, move on into Seneca and buy your burial plots because you will soon need them. [read more...] |

Not sure yet if this is a great place - 5/6/2009
We recently moved here. The scenery here is beautiful. The lakes are unique and the mountains are nearby. The frustrating part of this whole process is the bureaucracy....the licensing of vehicles, paying personal property tax, obtaining a drivers license is just about the most difficult process! It took 5 trips to the DMV to get a drivers license! You pay your personal property tax in Walhalla, but then go back to Seneca to obtain license plates and titles. You can't get a drivers license until you have your car registered, you can't get your car registered until you have SC insurance, and you can't get SC insurance until you have a SC drivers license!
People don't know how to give directions here. Commonly heard is "go straight on the winding road till you get to the five way stop, then turn left, and the _____ is straight ahead, you can't miss it." Of course, when you get to the five way stop, there are two left turns...so which left, the sharp left or the other left? Street signs are confusing. It looks as though someone had a wild party and turned all the street signs at an angle so you don't know for sure what street you are on. The numbering system for houses or businesses is equally confusing. I mapquested an address and it told me my destination would be on my left...it wasn't. Two days later, I finally found it, it was on the right and a block off the street they said it was on.
I am sure it will all work itself out...but right now, I am NOT feeling the love here. It's as though outsiders aren't very welcome! I moved 1100 miles to be here. My husband always wanted to live by a lake.
