Little Mexico - 11/1/2009
Edinburg is 95 percent Hispanic, which tells you a lot. People down here talk about cultural diversity. WHAT diversity? There is a large number of illegal immigrants which drain the schools and welfare. there isn't much to do in this town but at least it is close to McAllen, which has a large number of restaurants and stores. The summers here are extremely long and it rains very little. The winter is pleasant. No opportunity unless you want to work a minimum wage job. Not Much Here - 10/22/2009
Edinburg and the whole Rio Grande Valley is a very unique place, but mostly not in a good way. There are so many illegal immigrants here that often I am not sure if this is Southern Texas or Northern Mexico. A lot of property crime and the people are not very friendly. You will find terrible service at most stores with some employees not even speaking English. The summers are hot, of course, like the rest of Texas, but they last six or seven months. You will get basically no rain except for the occassion hurricane. You will also find that you are a good four hour drive from any major city. No college sports to speak of. The only people who seem to like it here are the ones who were born here and have lived here all their lives. I guess they just don't know any better![read more...] |
