Lancaster Independent School District-LISD - 11/4/2011
The school's under LISD are so poor. I have 3 children in 3 different schools. The LISD district is such a let down. I'm not a native Texan-had I been I would have known not to move to this area. I would have went 5 more miles up the road to Red oak, Tx. where the schools are much better!!!! Here in Lancaster, both my elementary child and high school child very seldom have homework due to them not being allowed to bring books home. The district claims they don't have $$$ in the budget for enough books. However, back a few months ago when this major storm came through here, the district had enough funds available to replace the Tiger @ the high school on the outside of the football stadium! (It had been damaged in the storm.) I also have a MAJOR problem with the TAKS test-that they supposedly have done away with. However, with the TAKS test you can go to school all year long and be on the principal's list every single semester and then take the TAKS and be held back!!!!!!! What? Are you kidding me? I am currently looking for jobs in other states as well as homes. As soon as the job situation changes, we are leaving Texas-specifically Lancaster. I'm sure not everywhere in Tx is bad, but things are so mismanaged here its rediculious! The emphasis here lies more in football than in education. Again our high school-that my son attends-spends so much money on football equipment, football uniforms, stadiums, and golf carts for the stadium that they can't and don't take time to actually educate our children. My son initially played football our first year here, so I know 1st hand that everything I say is true and factual. When my son revealed to his coach he would not be returning sophmore year (due to my concern of him having epileptic seizures) the coach told him (out of my presence) that he was a "pussy" and that he should "man up." Maybe I'm crazy but last I checked football wasn't that serious-to endaanger your life. One rough hit to the head just right and my son has a seizure and dies or a life in a wheelchair in aa diaaper and unable to feed himself....And the coach is calling him a quitter???? Like I said, be very AWARE before moving here if you have children! I'm trying my best to find a way out of here! [read more...] |

I found what I needed in Lancaster - 8/23/2009
After an terrible experience in Red Oak, my family moved to Lancaster two years ago. Even though I heard a lot of negative things being said about Lancaster while living in Red Oak, they were based mostly on ignorance more than anything else. Our neighbors are a true blessing. They helped us unpack and get settled into our house and my son has thrived in the new surroundings. His school is great and this year they were rated "Recognized." The teachers are wonderful and the quality of education is top of the line. After such a poor experience in Red Oak, all I wanted was to find a nice, safe, and welcoming place for my family to live. I found it in Lancaster![read more...] |

Lovely Town - 4/15/2009
I have lived in Lancaster for 20+ years. This is a wonderful community and I love living here. Even with all of the recent growth, it still retains that "close-knit", "small-town" feel. I encourage anyone looking for a safe, family-friendly community close to the "big city" to move here.[read more...] |

Our Best Decision - 3/6/2009
As long-time renters, my wife and I finally saved up enough to purchase our first home. We looked at many areas, but fell in love with a home in Lancaster's Rolling Meadows subdivision. It was just the right size for us and significantly reduced the commute times to and from our jobs in Waxahachie and Duncanville. The price was right and we have never regretted our decision to move here. Rolling Meadows is a close-knit neighborhood with regular events taking place all the time. There is an active Homeowners Association (HOA) that is community-oriented and not overbearing and intrusive the way some are in other parts of the Dallas area. We don't have any children, but many of our neighbors do and most of them are active in their children's schools. I have frequently heard that the schools are definitely improving and are much better than some of the generalizations often made about them.
To sum it up, we love our house, the neighborhood, and the city. If you want a lot of bang for your buck, then Lancaster a great choice. I wholeheartedly agree with the earlier comment made by Chris, Lancaster is only now starting to realize its true potential and has a bright future ahead![read more...] |

Nice town, poor schools - 12/8/2007
I moved to Lancaster from the east coast. The housng cost is very affordable compared to the northeast. It is clean and quiet, the only issue is the school system. It is not organized and the curriculum is very behind, even the AP courses. The children are also not treated fair. The schools seam to be more concerned with the students dress attire rather than their education. It is nice to live here as long as one either does not have children or alternative education is found.[read more...] |

Only starting to realize its potential - 10/20/2007
Lancaster is a nice suburban community. I moved here from DeSoto last year and have had no problems. The city has a lot of spacious, affordable homes in well-kept neighborhoods. It has attracted between 7,000 and 10,000 new residents since 2000. Lancaster is only starting to realize its potential as more home builders, industries, and even retail (which we really need) are coming to the city. There is a lot of vacant land on the south side that has yet to be developed and will be valuable in the future as many other Dallas county suburbs are nearing build out. No city is perfect, but I am proud to call Lancaster home.[read more...] |
