The Perfect Place. - 3/21/2023
Before we fell in love with the scenery, we fell in love with the people. We came through Dubois in 2020, because it was the only town in Wyoming that hadn't cancelled its 4th of July Parade. They even had the Governor as the Grand Marshall! We stayed a week and then moved on to a planned 6-week stay in Lake Tahoe. After two weeks of putting up with noise and traffic there, we looked at each other and said "Let's go back to Dubois!" The views are breathtaking, the folks are friendly. We bought property, built a home, and stayed. Wonderful place.

Dubois is about 1000 people officially, with another 1,000 or so in the surrounding area. Everybody knows everybody. We like it that Read More

Hidden Gem. Remote and Remarkable. - 3/18/2018
Dubois is literally the kind of town that people fall in love with. I personally know several who decided to move here when on vacation here--or simply driving through. They are captivated by the spectacular landscape, on the border between red rock badlands and high Alpine forest. Then they are won over by the friendly and very interesting mix of residents, and the attitude of self-help and mutual support. You won't find chain restaurants or strip malls in Dubois -- which is exactly the way we like it -- but you will find everything you need, if you're the kind of independent person who actually likes remoteness, open space, and a sense of peace. Read More

Unless you were born here, don't bother. - 3/23/2015
Worst. Small town. Ever. Run by ancient small-minded people who can't get out of their own way to help themselves. Surprisingly xenophobic for a town that was touted as the second best western town to retire in. Very low mental health record. Wyoming itself is one of the highest ranked states for suicide and this town is no stranger to the occurence, sadly. Appalling discord among church members and obvious disparity between religions. It's the old "mine is better than yours" so let's not get together to help each other. If you weren't born here, you will never be regarded as viable unless you keep your wallet wide open and dish out donations. It's a very poor town, sadly, and depends on philanthropists to keep it going and they are slowly dying out. You will be "welcomed" just as much as thrown out with the bathwater as soon as you have an opinion about something. People are leaving in droves, especially young families who moved there for the low crime rate. Homes are listed Read More
