Public Schools and Private Schools in WInnetka
Star Rating - 3/6/2011
Having had children attend both public and private schools. I would say the private schools are better. While the public schools are fine, there isn't any way to measure how your child is performing, other than the state test(ISAT), which occurs once a year, end of year and starts in third grade. There are no conventional report cards with grades( letter or number ) until 7th grade. As far as discipline goes, the private schools wins that too. However, it must be said that bullying occurs no matter what school. How it is handled by school officials is the difference. Ultimately Winnetka is a nice community, but I would recommend anyone considering moving here, take a very detailed long look at what you'll be getting for your very high tax dollar vs. what you expect or already get in your current town. It's not enough to believe what people tell you about schools. You have to do the legwork: review test scores, meet w/ school officials, tour facilities, talk with current and former families of these schools.
