Review of Port Orcha,

Quality of Life
Star Rating - 1/19/2012
Port Orchard is a nice little town but a bit too far from Seattle to interact with. Tolls too high and traffic getting to 'the other side of the pond' is bad. I wish we had more places to go to meet people, especially seniors that aren't old! But all in all, it's a nice town...not dangerous and I've found it to be pretty friendly.

Don't move or even think about moving to Port Orchard, if you don't like high prices, high cost of living, no sun, all rain, damp cold winters. Come to your senses, and stop dreaming.

The rain in Port Orchard is typical to the Seattle area as a whole. I have a view rental in the area and love it there. The Olympic mountains are beautiful as well as the sunsets, close to foot ferry that takes you to the Bremerton ferry then to Seattle. It runs about every 20 minutes so is easy to use to commute. Pt. Orchard has many stores to choose from and if you want bigger stores (Costco) you can go to Silverdale just a stones throw away for that. Nice low home prices at the moment, look to the future, the property values will come back eventually, but have been flat compared to Seattle, Redmond etc.

Hilarious reading a comment from Carson City, NV. My wife wanted me to research moving to Carson City. My conclusion was, if you despise vegetation, love endless sand, want to fry your skin to a crisp - great for melanoma - and want virtually nothing to do all summer other than head into Reno and hang out in the casino, then Carson City is heaven on earth. If you are going to live in the Pacific Northwest, in virtually any city or town, it is green. When it comes to green in nature it generally means one thing, moisture as in water as in coming from the sky. As the country bakes each summer and I hear of water shortages it makes me appreciate that this area will be supporting human life when a great many others are struggling.
