Review of Terrell, Texas

Terrell Has It All
Star Rating - 2/11/2009
I've only lived in Terrell for a little over a year and what a gem it is!
There is so much going on in this community that its sleepy charater belies the vibrant current just beneath its repose.
The performing arts center is one of the best anywhere. It has state of the art equipment and acoustics and is booked with well known events and entertainers. The E!Terrell series is top notch talent that comes through town to perform, but also to educate the school chidlren with one on one classroom interaction the day prior to the performance.

Another worthy note is the SHOPPING!!! Both the downtown and Tanger Outlett Mall have a wide variety of goods and services avaialble at reasonable prices. One of the most popular places is Books & Crannies, the old Iris Theater converted into a used book store (and so much more) while maintaining the screen and part of the stage where they host plays and oldies movie night.
Last year's Fly-in Event was the talk of the town and there are plans underway to produce another event at the airport this year on October 3rd. The British Flying Training School Museum (BFTS) is housed there and attracts many old WWII war birds as well as antique military regalia and equipment. Henry Majwick, himnself a former British pilot trained at the BFTS, is director of teh museum and imparts personal first hand knowledge to students and interested members of the public. The trip is worth it just to talk to Henry.
The Chamber also sponsors several fabulous events each year. One of the best attended events is the Fourth of July symphony and fireworks celebration. The patriotic leanings of the residents was evident in the huge send off they gave the troops leaving from the regiment stationed there, and the reception given to a fallen soldier on his return to Terrell for burial.
There is a historical home tour, both an inside the home tour at the holidays, and a driving tour in the spring and on special occassions. A plein air paint out in the spring, and so much more. Get on the mailing list with the City of Terrell Marketing Center and Chamber of Commerce for a list of updated activities. Then come see for yourself.
Terrell is a GREAT place to live.
