THANK YOU FOR THIS POST...I thought it was just me seeing this! My husband and I have been stuck here and trying to get out for 12 years. It's been so hard to get out with the low paying jobs...it's like being trapped. Thankfully he is almost finished with his degree and we will get out of here soon. Everything you said is spot on. People are so aggressive and uneducated here. You are especially right about it not being safe as a pedestrian. My children and I were literally chased away from a park my drug dealers. Breaks my heart that it's not safe to take my boys on a walk :( No culture, dirty, boring, insane people. My own personal hell. If you have a heart and mind, this place will eat your soul. Springfield has a way of chewing people up and spitting them out, bringing out the worst in them.I've seen it happen countless times. There are so many con-men(predatory lenders, car dealers, landlords, employers, contractors, mechanics), it is inevitable that you will have financial problems due to low wages and people trying to scam you out of money all the time. Horrible place.

I have been looking for some written acknowledgement of "mainly", the lack of diversity in this area of Northern Arkansas and throughout southern Missouri. Thank you for divulging some truths. The topic seems hushed. I believe the masses of American population have no idea this Twilight Zone exists. I had to visit my Mother in this weird area many times. She moved there only to be close to my extremely ill sister. Very spooky. The KKK headquarters is based in Harrison Arkansas, not far from Springfield, and from THAT pinpoint, anyone but white heterosexual caucasians must be obsolete over a hundred mile radius. On all flights in and out I have taken via Branson or Springfield, there were only white people on the airplanes. Only white people did i see during my "stays" which were sometimes up to 1 month long. I did take my Japanese exchange student with me during one of these visits, and she was looked upon like she was an alien from Mars. I saw no other religious sect aside from evangelical christians. One day they were 5 miles standing along the roadside with anti abortion signage. Small children also carried these signs. It is the creepiest area i have ever known. It is like "CHILDREN OF THE CORN". Even the fashion available for purchase is only suitable for "MAYBERRY". I did go to one supposed Chinese food restaurant in Mountain Home, and there were white ladies with hair nets working the buffet which included fried chicken and grits. I believe this area is more bigoted than any area of the deepest south, USA. I also hope that the weird facts of life there should become common knowledge to all the people in our country. BEWARE
