I came back to No California in 2010, after leaving in 1977 -as a young adult with a medical career that allowed me to live in many places and see how other cultures in the US and the world live. I thought that, upon returning, I would never want to leave this beautiful place. Ha! The poorly managed inhumane treatment of people before, during and after disasters - like the fires, homelessness, and the current sociopolitical tragedy -has shown me that Santa Rosa is just a "big little town" - unable to burst out of a greedy bubble and truly serve the huge population and its needs. There is no room for thoughtful policy and creative problem solving beyond Habitat for Humanity that offers a bandaid for hemorrhaging cancer. I'll be outta here, taking my disregarded resources with me.
