Review of El Paso, Texas

Ugliest city in the southwest
Star Rating - 10/26/2011
I used to live in EL Paso for a while when I was a kid after moving there from California. EL Paso is one of the most ugliest city in Texas. The whole state of Texas is pretty much ugly. I live near Austin and Austin is a much nicer city than EL Paso but the heat and humidity is awful compare to EL Paso. When my family and I go visit California to visit I used to be so happy to get out of EL Paso and dread coming back to EL Paso when vacation is over for us. I really don't like all of Texas very much because of the heat and is so boring nothing to see. One nice thing about EL Paso is that Ruidoso and Cloudcroft is not far and its a very nice small town to visit and most of northern New Mexico is very nice. EL Paso has a lot of illegals living there and they say its the most safest city and I find it very hard to believe because they had to boost the miliary people to move there at Fort Bless and its makes me wonder why they are moving a lot of national guard to relocated in EL Paso and I think its has something to do with being very close to Mexico so I really don't think its a safe place at all. I remember when I was little my parent car has been broken into 4 times and we live a nicer part of town where people have more money. One time someone try to steal my parent van and they couldn't because thank god we had dogs barking a lot. Its very dry and rains a very few times a year and I rather see more rain than that. I have families that still live there and I hope they move out of EL Paso someday but they probably won't and I find it werid that some of my families like it in EL Paso because I don't agree with them. Some of my cousins are moving out to California because they are getting tired of living in EL Paso. I will never live in EL Paso because its very boring and ugly and I will visit but just to visit my families for a few days.If you only speak engish in EL Paso its getting harder to find a good paying job because most jobs in EL Paso reqiured spanish speaking because of growing numbers of spanish people from Mexico so I will never live there because of one of those reason. I really don't like the whole state of texas at all and I am fixing to move to the pacific northwest, maybe Eugene Oregon or near Portland Oregon because its so beautiful in Washington, Oregon and northern California.

I really like El Paso, for the low crime and peace and quiet; I visited on vacation I would love to revisit Its not a big city type vacation spot. It's a calm laid back get some rest vacation spot and the food was great I'll never forget Taco Real and the Sea food restaurant I just loved El Paso and the service was great. i shopped so much my suit cases were bursting. I'm used to having a wonderful lake and beautiful park system here in Milwaukee yet, it can be exhausting in the summer trying to keep up with all of the festivals and lake is over crowded at times. Yet El Paso is calm and serene I love it!!!

One thing I forgot to meantion about EL Paso is that there is many good Mexican Food restaurant in that town and its very good to eat and that the only thing I like about EL Paso no other cities that has Mexican Foods in the country seem to match or even be better than EL Paso. There is some areas of town that is nicer than most part of town and its the westside of town that is the nice part but for the most part along the border is bad and that the reason why I don't like EL Paso very much.

Get to Know the City. I have to disagree with you. I moved to El Paso from Hawaii, and I have to say that I absolutely love El Paso. The culture here is a genuinely nice culture, and the people are always there to help out. In actuality, it is one of the safest cities in America. The crime rate is considerably lower than most with such a high population. Only FIVE homicides were reported in 2010, contradicting the 2,0000+ drug related homicides in Ciudad Juarez. Fort Bliss is one of the largest military instillations in America, so relocating troops to Fort Bliss is because of the land quantity, not because of the border. American military personnel are not allowed to go across the International bridge. The training land of Fort Bliss is larger and resembles combat zones more than any other instillation because of the desert environment. Sure, there's not much to look at in El Paso, and there aren't sparkling beaches like there were in Hawaii, but it is unique and exotic all its own. I have lived in several different states throughout my lifetime, and I have to say that the people here in El Paso are definitely the nicest. I don't speak Spanish fluently, and sometimes, I'm looked down upon because of that, but I am able to communicate with most people with the little Spanish I know. I am slowly working on my Spanish, and hopefully, I will be fluent soon. There are always bad parts of cities, and there are some places you just don't go to because of their location. It's always like that. In Hawaii, I never ventured out at night or to Chinatown at any time of the day because of the dangers. In Virginia, I stayed clear of certain parts of town. El Paso is not the only city in the world that has good and wealthy parts of the city, but low income and dangerous places too. People should be cautious, but they shouldn't write off El Paso completely because of stereotypes. I know several people who were born and raised in Juarez before moving. They'll even say that they won't go into Mexico, but they also say that El Paso is such a drastic and safe change. A good friend of mine said that his father doesn't think that Ciudad Juarez is dangerous, but he won't go visit his father. His father comes and visits him. Several of my friends still hold residencies in Juarez, but say that they prefer the safety and security of El Paso much better. It's a very nice city once you get around, and it's my favorite out of all of the places (many, many places) I have lived. I think that people should give El Paso a chance and not focus on the fact that it is right next to Ciudad Juarez. I'm staring at Juarez from my window, yet I have never encountered any dangers in my neighborhood. I love El Paso, and I realize that my view is not completely objective, but then again, neither is yours. We are all entitled to our own opinions, but El Paso and the people who live here should not be judged by the violence going on on the other side of the fence. It's a great city when you aren't looking at it in terms of drugs and violence that rarely happens in El Paso, but is prominent in Ciudad Juarez. In response to the Mexican restaurants, I love the ones I have found so far. A lot of the businesses from Juarez are switching over, so majority of the food is genuine Mexican, not TexMex as is found in the rest of the country. I enjoy the restaurants very much, but I don't think that its the only good thing about El Paso. (:
