Review of Durango Color,

It's about lifestyle
Star Rating - 3/14/2016
I chanced upon this site and the reviews by disgruntled people when I was doing research this morning on another matter. I was shocked by the "reviews"--people saying "don't go there!"--mostly, because they were shocked by the housing costs. Why would anyone move to a new location without first checking housing costs? Some were upset by the lack of shopping "I couldn't find anything decent." That's a matter of preference, isn't it? It's absolutely true that shopping in a small, isolated, rural, mountain town is going to be different from shopping in a city. Here, you'll find plenty of outdoor lifestyle shops, but only one high fashion store, a collection of "art as clothing" stores on Main street, and a few well-known shops like Penney's, Christopher Banks, and TJ Max. Groceries are about the same as elsewhere, at least by my comparisons when I travel. I eat organic foods and can't imagine living anywhere else because I have three health food stores with excellent produce within walking distance. Yes, I live in town. No, I'm not rich. It's true that housing costs more than some other places; housing is one of those supply and demand situations. More people want to live here than the number of places offered for sale.
This is a family town with churches, activities and clubs and opportunities to volunteer. There are several gyms with classes, including the Durango Recreation Center. If that woman felt closed out, I have to wonder what she was expecting. Meeting people and making friends take effort. You have to actuality leave your house and join a group.
Before you make a decision whether or not to visit, and certainly if you're planning to relocate, do your own research. Don't depend on gossip to make your decisions. At the very least, "google the town." Use city web sites and city-data dot com for factual information.

Dorinda now lives in Ft Wayne IN. I think I’d rather be homeless than live in Ft Wayne. Indiana feels like some kind of backward christian extremist state.

Hi, those of us who have had bad experiences in Durango had them; I lived in the area including farming for 12 years, moved to NYS after a divorce, then moved back to Durango in 2004; All I wanted to do was sell my jewelry & make pottery, but due to having the same last name as a meth dealer who had been arrested a week before I arrived, I was treated like total garbage-fired from jobs when I could even get one, my apt. was $750 a month & I was robbed by management who helped themselves to my things while I was out looking for work, and no one would bother to ask or even tell me why they had such nasty attitudes. I had to sell all I had left and the woman would only give me $500 for over $3.000 worth of belongings..so this is not gossip-Durango sucks; I have had money there, which people were nice then-but when I was not in $ and had to work? I was no good to anyone. So say what you will but I had moved there in 1988 & saw the place go steadily downhill; If I want nicer views I'll go to Montana, Oregon or Wyoming..Durango can burn down for all I care-Walmart totally destroyed the town...so my story is real, & never again will I return. People are snobs from out west and other areas & treat locals like trash as well. Sorry but no, don't ever move there folks.

>>>Farmington is what I intended; Also the prices are outrageous for everything.. my little girl was bullied in Durango & Farmington until I home schooled her it was so bad. The little rich oil brats got no punishment for what they did, and treated the others who weren't Halliburton or Williams oil kids, like garbage. The racism towards Indians is another issue-I am Caucasian & American Indian, & I had all the hatred that people could heap on me-I was even refused at Chelsea's once while waiting 30 minutes as a waitress ignored me-my husband who was German, had to go to the manager & report the woman for being so nasty. So I have not 1 thing good to say about Durango, except that before 1988, it was ok, after Walmart & Californians came in? Forget it-nast nasty people, & prices of everything went sky high, so we moved to Farmington, which was no better.
