Review of Pensacola, Florida

Pensacola-gone to $h!t
Star Rating - 8/15/2014
I have lived all over the Panhandle my entire life, from Destin, FL all the way over to Pensacola, FL where I am now. And I have to say, this place has gone to h3ll in a handbasket over the years. Prostitution, drugs, murders, rapes, robberies, homelessness and crime in general abound. Yes, there is history-in the downtown section. Yes, there is shopping, in the middle/northern part of town. There is also a lot of corruption in the politics, (and I'm including the Sheriff's Dept in this), and very bad economy-housing sucks, jobs are little to non-existent unless you're a doctor or a lawyer or military. The roads suck, the taxes suck, the neighborhoods suck, the people here seem beaten and down-trodden with life. The police here are a freakin joke. They find reasons to harass people walking down the street (except for Cervantes) so they can "get to know the citizens around town". HA. And when/if you need them, they are no where to be found. It is hot, humid, and rainy a lot of the months out of the year. Yes, we do get fall-like weather, sometime in October, and "Winter" starts about December/January-ish and lasts only through about 2 weeks into February. Don't waste your time buying a house in Pensacola, unless it's in the more swankier parts of town off Bayou Blvd/12th Ave/Mallory Street/Scenic Hwy/Gaboronne/Marcus Pointe. Everywhere else is hit and miss with quality of housing/quality of the neighborhood, etc. For years I have watched this town go to $h!t, and I am working towards getting OUT OF HERE as soon as possible! Pensacola Beach is nice, but you have to pay a toll to get to it, and it's actually located THROUGH Gulf Breeze, and over a bridge....Watch out for the tar balls and sharks. If you stay in town, watch yourself wherever you go. Either the crooks that live in the streets may get you, or the crooked cops will get you. STAY AWAY. There's a reason we have a -5% population growth! People are LEAVING! That should tell you something right there!

This is obviously a repost by someone with personal axe to grind... I have lived in Pensacola over five years and found it to be a good combination of climate, beaches, entertainment, music, art and proximity to New Orleans. One problem is job growth with most seemingly taking place in lower wage tourist, food prep, bar scene...

This is obviously a post by someone who has lived here a long time and knows the scoop. I know the new folks want to get people to move here so they can cover the price they overpayed in East Hill before they get up and leave, but listen to this post. The person pretty much nailed it. I have been here on and off for over 40-years. Yep, pretty much on the head.
