Hailey sits in a long narrow valley that runs north-south in the mountains of south central Idaho. Theres a town above (Ketchum/Sun Valley) and a town below (Bellevue). You have only one road that connects through the valley so during rush hours its very busy because lots of people in the towns down in the large Snake R. valley south of here commute up here to work for the rich people who live further toward to north end of the valley. Also the road was never widened sufficiently for the traffic volume because back in the 60's when the state and feds wanted to make it a major highway the rich people up north fought it thinking it would disrupt their tranquil lifestyle. They got their way but now they have to pay big bucks for the labor and help they crave because it takes the lowlanders a long time to make the drive.

There's no denying the valley is very pretty and that's what fuels the population growth but, for me, its too much and if it wasn't for the good nordic and downhill skiing, mountain biking and pretty good weather (for this far north in mtns) I would be outta here. As it is I plan to find a place in the southwest to spend spring and fall.

Stores are ok, not into that much though, there is better in Twin Falls and Boise. 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 hours away, respectively. Lots of good music being a resort area, lots of good hiking trails. Good schools and hospital...well supported by affluent community. Job market is good for some things bad for others...complicated subject.
Cheers!
