Valdosta has two very distinct school systems, the city schools and the county schools. The have different school year calendars and because the county system is highly sought after they have very strict residency rules. You must provide proof of residecy every year. The county school system is one of the finest in the state. There has been talk of combining the systems but it was met with much opposition. The best thing about having two systems is the high school football team rivalry
