great place

Whatever your situation is (student, raising a family, professional) DO NOT MOVE to Greensboro, NC.

As a student, please do yourself a favor and spend these 4 special years in a fun and reputable school far away from Greensboro!!!! You will cherish these 4 years for ever...make them special.

I agree that raising a family correctly is important, but think of this....in Greensboro your kids will become ignorant, drama filled racists! Greensboro creates this bubble that kind of blocks external influence. While the world is changing, Greensboro is stuck in the past. And of course that will affect your kids life when they grow up. At the same time, and since there is nothing to do for parents (yes, there are some parks etc, but after a while they get old), the parents focus and spend all their time on their kids (good you will say) which is not good. The kids attitudes from mingling with southern kids becomes dramatic (in order not to use a worst word), which then passes on to the parents and makes them "slow" as well. Overall there is plenty of drama down here. Also and as you might see, the city is one giant suburb....there is no social fiber. Unless you are a loner, then depression comes naturally.

There was an effort to revitalize the 2 blocks that make the downtown, but it was a failure. Again an uneducated population, southern lifestyle, and as i mentioned above racism, have made the down town even worse. During the day, downtown is DEAD. At night, it splint into two zones....one for whites with sport bars serving beer and fat food and one zone for all others....looks bad. Restaurant scene is pretentious, just like its population.

The only good thing about this place...If you have a good paying job, you can actually save money since there is nothing to do (unless you become depressed and start spending money on worthless shopping). Also, yes there are mountains and beaches close by (min 2 hours for mountains and min 3 hours for beach).....thats not close by. Greensborians bring that up as an point of something good, but lets be honest, no-one wakes up Sat morning and says "lets drive THREE hours to go to the beach." Thats quite a hike. Oh, and lets not forget the weather....yes as everyone says, the weather is fantastic. Yes, i like my long summers (although a little muggy) but don't bloody sell that point you ignorant local, when i as a northerner i am the only one asking for outdoor patio or enjoying sitting in my garden, while you are in the AC all day....

Anyway, I got my family out of that city. My wife was getting moody and too dramatic with all these southern belles. My kids had no idea that there is whole other world out there (they did learn how to gossip and become dramatic at school)....after this I refuse to go anywhere below the PA border.

Hope this helps some people before they make a move to this place. Fi you are planning, please do yourself a favor and do a pre-visit. If you cant avoid it, consider Winston as a living place....school system it bad, but the community is much better

As an implant, who isn't from here, but has chosen to stay for 25+ years, it sounds as if your distaste for Greensboro has more to do with you than the city itself. To say there is nothing to do tells me you expect the city and activities to come knocking on your door, rather than you and your family going out and seeking all the things there are to do. Every weekend, there are numerous options for you and your children, like plays, the science center, children's museum, cultural festivals, music in the park or movies in the park. Yes, there are events in several of the beautiful parks. If you have an issue with parks, maybe you shouldn't have moved to GREENsboro. For adults, there are award winning restaurants, art museums and openings, wine bars, night clubs, baseball, soccer, and the list goes on and on. As far as children and their education goes, the schools are varied and most are excellent. Our children go to a public school and are doing exceptionally well. By the way, their high school is 51% white/49% minority, so it'd be pretty difficult to be a racist when half the school could and would call you on it. There's racism everywhere, but Greensboro is a city that embraces diversity. Most of your other points seem to be based on personal issues, not Greensboro. Coming from an implant who has traveled all over in her lifetime, I always look forward to coming HOME to Greensboro. It's a beautifully, warm city that's big enough to experience Life, yet small enough to evoke small time charm.

Agreed. We’ve saved so much money living in Greensboro because there truly is nothing going on here. There are only a handful of restaurants that are okay so we just cook at home. People are odd here so we don’t even go out to socialize anymore. Can’t wait to move far away…

According to your so-called grammar, it appears that YOU are the ignorant Northerner. I'm sure no one asked you come to the South and we're all happier when a Northern bigot like you goes the hell on back. If you didn't notice that Greensboro is in the MIDDLE of the state, and didn't do your research first, then you wouldn't be complaining that the mountains and the beaches are not in your back yard. Duuuh. Southerners are not ignorant or slow; they're down-to-earth and appreciate the REAL things in life, not bars, not drinking, not the night life like you evidently do. Go on back up North, stay there, and find all the drunken night life you want. Glad your snobby wife is going with you too. And kids pick up WHATEVER is going on in their schools no matter WHERE they live or go to school. I should know: been living in all kinds of different regions in the U. S. and especially North Easterners are THE WORST.
