Review of Naples, Florida

Moving to Naples
Star Rating - 1/15/2012
Hello
My name is DeeDee and I am looking to move to Naples from New Mexico. I choose Naples because it is seems quite and has beautiful beaches. I was reading some of what others have said and It is not looking good from what others think. How horrible is the job market there? I am a Dental Assistant. I don't care about Night life as I would rather take my dog to the beach and bring a container of ice tea and watch the sun set than go partying. I have seen online some nice apts that seem affordable. So why do so many people seem to not like Naples? What about some of the good about Naples. I will be down there in March to apply for jobs and secure a place to live. Any possitive experiances?

Naples is probably the most beautiful place in Florida. It's stays that way because there are no jobs. If you can't afford to live there, people don't stay... so 6 months out of the year it fills up with snow birds, 6 months it's almost a ghost town... there really is nothing more to it than that. Job market is horrible. It was horrible when I lived there 5 years ago and only got worse when the economy crashed. If you have the money, don't mind searching for a job for a while or dont mind working retail, then you should be ok... but don't go there planning on being unemployed for only a short period and then getting a job because it most likely won't happen. I'd plan on being unemployed for at least a year.

I know your post was written 8 yrs. ago. My husband and I are moving to Marco Island/Naples area from San Diego, CA. We want out of Ca. so relatively speaking it is not more expensive. Of course the further inland the more affordable. We have spent a lot of time there in the last year and found it very pleasant, super clean, and mellow compared to San Diego, which is a mess and just ridiculous with mean people. I am curious how it is going for you. Thanks

Dennice, did you ever move to Naples? If so, how do you like it? I have been considering moving there for awhile, but concerns about the local job market are holding me back. Please let me know what your experience has been like. Thank you.

If you did move here, you have found out no dogs allowed on the beach here. We do have a new sheriff and I was assured a whole new attitude with the sheriff's office since my nightmarish home break in in '05. Better have a bit to invest into buy here, as I doubt as a renter one could have a pet. It's a nice place but I hope to move to a different part of Fl or somewhere warm within the year. And even considering New Mexico...we could trade?
