Living with wildfires

In parts of town where there are signs posted promoting www.livingwithfire.org one might think twice. Since moving here from the east coast 2 years ago we have experienced one fire (8,000 sq feet - largest in history) burning our entire view to the left. And this year a fire burning our view behind us. It's a very scary thing being evacuated for fire and watching it burn. Unlike anything we were used to. The govt does a great job trying to replant, but it will take years to regrow that beautiful view and by then i expect there will be another fire. Reno has many fires as well. Dozens each year. Not to mention living in the valley (or canyons) after fire season is over if too much has burnt (make sure you have "Defensible space" around your house) then you have to prepare for mud slides as the brush is gone and the mountain snow melts and runs down hill obviously. Cost of housing has become rediculous recently. Absolutely nice to be near Lake Tahoe and skiing is amazing but this town trends much older if you are going into upper middle class areas. Our neighborhood is largely old retirees. No kids for children to play with. Good restaurants are scarce. Service can be terrible and people you deal with, even in professional jobs, can be highly uneducated. School system in Carson is terrible as well as gang problems in the one and only highschool. No state income tax, but let's not forget the gambling and legal prostitution. You want to bring up a family around all that? I'm looking forward to moving.
