Review of Montrose, Colorado

Reasonable Economy
Star Rating - 7/27/2009
Montrose, not unlike other small towns of villages, currently embraces the overall affect of the economic downturn. My husband transferred there six months ago, to escape the contstant overload of San Antonio,Tx as city of more than 1.32 million residents (July, 2008) leaving me behind to complete an MBA.

He fell in love with the community, the people, and for once looked forward to going to work everyday. He worries about my being here, because I am blind and alone. We hope that soon work will surface so that I can join him and make Montrose our home as we are apporaching our senior years.

I was convinced after my husband being there for just over six months, is happier, and far less stressed than anywhere we have lived in the past. If one would use a term gate way to heaven, this is how we would describe Montrose, and the friendly people who are native to the area. As for transients, they will find fault with everything, until such time as they find who they are looking for "theirself" to make the journey in life less complicated and stressful.

We keep the faith, soon there will be a job for me in Montrose, I keep seeking and hopefully God will nudge a hiring manager to say here is our prime canditate... Oh well can's blame a lady for dreaming.....

CJ here after two years later and very unhappy. I retract all that was said in my original post on 07/27/2009. Montrose leadership has not one care for its citizens, if so they would find a way to encourage jobs growth rather than increase taxes on food, increase water rates and allow landlord abuses in this once thriving community. A gateway to heaven? More like an blind persons door to living in eternal hell. Since we moved here we have ultimately lost everything we own, mostly because we cannot keep up with landlord and merchant greed. If God is willing and my husband and I live long enough we will get out of this living hell and go to where we know making a living is more important than a rich mans bank account. After all you cannot take money to heaven when you die and if you could and went to hell for greed it would burn anyway. It is sad that more than 50% of this areas young parents are either homeless or live below poverty. So by all means do not move to Montrose if you expect to survive as a senior. Since only 3% of the nations population are wealthy then who can argue. Money is not everything but slumlords like here in Montrose need to be shown the people are tired of their abuses just as with the city and government.

July 2012 We are done. Leaving Montrose after all this time and loosing everything due to the exagerated cost of living in a horrible community. I would not wish this town on my worst enemy. Please think twice about moving to Montrose Colorado there is everything to lose and nothing to gain.
