A Biased Opinion (I'm a Seattlite, originally from the Portland, OR area):
I moved to Seattle after graduating from a Washington State college, Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA (basically Canada). I've been here for almost 8 years. Overall, I would say Seattle did take some getting used to as the residents can be a bit dismissive to newcomers (this is a generality, and not always the case, obviously). I was able to forge new friendships and relationships with people from the area, but it did take some time. People mention the 'Seattle Freeze' often, which is why I bring that up.
Being from the PNW originally, the weather was what I was used to, but actually RAINS LESS IN SEATTLE that Portland! I know, mind blown! But, Seattle is actually in a Rain Shadow cast by the Olympic Mountain Range. We still have tons of cloudy days, though. The Summer months more than make up for this, in my opinion, but I do always try and go somewhere sunny & warm at least once during Winter to recharge.
Seattle really has everything you'd want from a metropolitan area: good food, entertainment, good pro sports teams (lately), views of water and mountains, trees/ plants/ wildlife, & tons of outdoor activities all within a short distance. Plus, good public schools in many neighborhoods & the University of Washington, ranked 9th best University in THE WORLD.
There are drawbacks: traffic, a pricey housing boom, homeless problem, rising cost of living, & tax levies (including a large public transportation levy for light rail).
But, with all that, I still can't imagine living anywhere else. I like being able to walk to a beach on the sound to watch the sunset as the sun falls behind the Olympics and take my daughter to one of the three parks within walking distance! Life is good!
