Moving here from St. Louis, MO has shown me how much I took the schools for granted in St. Louis. Although it is outrageously expensive to live in OC, the public schools are very dissapointing. Although the school may receive a high rating on CA dept of ed website and elsewhere, it is because the entire CA public school system is so deficient. I went from paying 1/3 of the rent I do now and having an elementary school that was excellent to having my 8 yr old in a school that is very trailer like, with no extra-curricular classes such as music, art, or PE. The schools are all very dirty and lacking in materials. There is no cafeteria in case of rain; only strange trailers. I've visited many of the area elementary schools (that were highly rated) and found the same thing. CA government should be ashamed for letting their public school system be so deprived in comparison to other states, especially when the cost of living is through the roof.
