I can agree with firsthand experience. I am a caucasian, raised on Oahu in the 60s and even back then, racial tension was bad. I was pushed around and bullied by the locals and watch out on the last day of the school year, when it's "kill haole day". I finally had to move away as an adult, in no small part due to the more subtle, but very real, discrimination in the work place. Not to mention having to live in poverty - and that was with roommates! With the crowding on today's Oahu,it just isn't worth it!
