Review of Lynchburg Virgi, Iowa

Not for most americans.

Unless you are extremely religious or have children, I do not suggest coming to Lynchburg to live. There is no night life, there are not any bars (just restaurants that serve alcohol), there aren't any great dance clubs or hang out spots, good restaurants (except chains) there isn't even a decent movie theater and the mall is small and outdated. You will have a hard time finding things to entertain yourself or even meet people. Don't bother living here if you are Catholic either. This certainly isn't the place for you. Also, if you live here, getting out of here is hard if you want to drive any where or fly anywhere. The closest airport is over an hour away and you have to dig yourself out of the mountains to drive to the nearest highway which is 45 minutes away. If you are under the age of 40 without children, you will have a hard time even getting people to come and visit you. After over 3 years of living here, I am sick and tired of seeing "real men love Jesus" bumper stickers and drivers so slow i get cobwebs on my steering wheel waiting for them to turn.

I think the writer needs to get out more. We have found a number of very good nonchain restaurants in the area from the Millstone Tea Room to Dish, a very hip newer place downtown. We go out fairly often to dine and have not had to go to a chain place yet. A good hangout place is the Bull Branch downtown. Great food, music, bar and a very hip crowd for the Burg. The owner is from NYC and brought some of that vibe with her and her staff. Other good places are Isabella's Italian, Faria's Twin Oaks, Main Street, Meriweather's, The Depot, Shoemaker's, and Grace.

No bars or danceclubs? No malls? No airports? People won't be visiting me? And it's in the mountains? Wow, this place sounds perfect!

Lynchburg is a real unique, piece of work. My company transferred me here. While I'm glad to have a job, Lynchburg leaves too much to be desired. Like Maggie says, if you are not raising a family or not an avid church goer, absolutely forget. It is a good place to take a nap though!
