Carthage, the county seat of Moore County, was once the center of manufacture of horse drawn carriages...before the automobile was discovered. It has been somewhat slow to develop since that time. The rapid growth towns in the county are Pinehurst, a major golf and retirement center, and Southern Pines, also a rapidly developing up-scale resort community. Guess most of the locals in Carthage are happy to have a few miles to drive to have all the amenities of "up-scale living"... without the burgeoning traffic.
