Review of Houston, Texas

Please read FIRST if you are thinking of moving he

Hi all, thank you for your truth about Houston. I'm originally from Cali but have lived all over the US. Unfortunately I have been in Houston for many years and can't wait to move in 5 short months!!! Here is why I would seriously reconsider NOT moving to Houston if you currently have the pleasure of living in a beautiful state. 1) There is absolutely NOTHING to do outdoors because this city is mostly concrete & buildings. If you are an outdoor person who needs nature to calm anxieties & stress, you will hate Houston. Also, I might add if you are moving children here from another state, expect them to be stressed to the max!!! All the people who I have met with kids, absolutely hate Houston school districts. And yes, these are the so called "best schools in the burbs". Think again!
In fact, most of my daughters friends are on anxiety/depression meds. Come spend a day with your child in one of these schools (or should I say jails) and you too will have a panic attack too. 2) The weather is awful and bugs are even worse. It took me 2 summers to get used to the humidity here. 3) Not too many people with advanced degrees = NOT SO BRIGHT PEOPLE. The natives will tell you Houston is so great because they never experienced anything else. 3) If you suffer from allergies.. RUN. I know people here that take meds everyday to survive. 4) If you like to eat, spend money on shopping, and work work work... Well that is seriously all there is to do here. It can be very superficial and life draining here. Yes, you will have a nice house in the burbs, but your soul will want nature if you are a spiritual /grounded person. 5) Traffic... it's awful and people don't know how to drive. 6) Honestly you will not know what race you are after a month! This place is a melting pot but resembles Detroit. Lot's of Ghetto areas and that's coming from someone who lives by million dollar homes. It took me months to understand what certain races were saying. 7) The beaches are a complete joke. Never seen so much trash on a beach in my life. If you want your brain, soul, and body to be healthy please do not consider moving here. THIS WARNING is for the people who are moving here from a beautiful state Cali, WA, Oregon, AZ, or honestly anywhere that's nice. PLEASE don't move your kids here, I have not met one kid that said they like it here coming from another state. Children / pets are the best judge of environments, so listen to them please! Also, stay here for two weeks on vacation and see how you feel in your body. Chances are you will be stressed, more aggressive, and anxious. I work in the mental health field here in Houston. I have never seen so many people with mental illnesses/addictions in my life. I am not trying to scare anybody, I just wish someone would have gave me this advice years ago. Many blessings to you. May you choose wisely my friends! Peace & love always.

The allergies are the WORST. I know a ton of people who had to go on meds after moving here- they had never had allergies before. I moved here from Seattle and felt like my sinuses had been hit by a mack truck.
