I grew up un Browsville and now live in Johnson City, TN where I go to college. I also lived there 19 years. It's a great, low-cost place to live. There's a lot to do, it's on the Mexico border, and right next to South Padre Island. It doesn't snow, it's tropical weather, so that means high humitity. The elementary schools are great, and even though it's mostly hispanic population, I think it's actually pretty beneficial for white American kids to experience that, especially in K-5th grade. It's a cultural opportunity for anyone who goes there. My ex-high school principal told me it was an opportunity for him to see how the other half lifes. He meant minorities, and is glad he got to raise his kids in that atmosphere. Of course there's negative things about Brownsville, like the poverty and drop out rate, but no place is perfect. It's a wonderful place, the people are friendly, with the exception of few, of course, like in any other place. Other great things: The food, and unique local festials and holidays. ;)
