Review of Albuquerque, New Mexico

My hometown used to be awesome now it's a $#!+hole
Star Rating - 2/14/2017
Don't move here. I've lived here all my life and have adored my hometown. Now I'm looking to get out. First of all, if you don't like south of the border, this is not the place for you. This whole area is 3rd world basically. They have taken over many neighborhoods and whole sectors of business like road work, construction of all kinds, janitorial, they are now Kings of the used auto business. You cannot win against them because they undercut you. Car thieves thrive here. The judges let them out too quick. Home invasions sky high, home burglary, murder, same. The streets are full of vagrants, drunks, meth heads, mentally ill just wandering around like zombies. Home of Breaking Bad for real. My once beautiful home town is now Les Miserables. A real outhouse. It's so sad. The mayor sucks and does what he wants. He is tearing up the historic Route 66 bus line even though we citizens DO NOT want it. Businesses are shuttered along the construction line. The ART transit line he's putting in will be a psych ward on wheels which no decent citizen will ride. All the drunks, meth heads, mentally ill get free bus passes and will be on it all day. Too many people on state benefits. NO area is safe not even the expensive ones. Do not move here if you are looking for a good place to live.

I currently live here and am too looking to get out. It wont be easy for my heart is truly attached here. Have been here since '84 so I can vouch for everything you say. This loser Mayor looked for every magic boondoggle he could find to make his legacy which has been disastrous for the city. This place was an undiscovered paradise when my husband and I moved here. We thought such places only existed in dreams but once developers were allowed to come in and rape and scrape the desert with no regard for planning it was a done deal. Ugly homes. Corporate crap restaurants ran away off the true cuisine. I have yet to understand how they can justify the real estate prices here and the desparity between rich and poor is apparent particularly in what goes on in Santa Fe. The history here was the richest and most romantic of any state in the union but they trashed that too. My most beautiful memories will be here as we bought our first home but like everything else being ravaged by development and overpopulation I am looking to say farewell.

I agree 100% sadly your comment is spot on and I don't feel like anything is going to change around here

I'm right there with you....born and raised in ABQ and lived there for 36+ years before punching out in 2015. Everything you said is spot on true and I get extremely upset knowing that my hometown that was once a great place has turned into such a crime ridden hell hole. People continue to say "crime happens everywhere" which is absolutely true, but anyone from ABQ (which isn't that big at all) knows that it happens all the time there. Everyone knows someone who has been a victim and the tweakers have no regard for life and what makes things scary is the complete randomness of violent crimes there.

Most of the biggest crooks are white, like our former mayor, Berry, who destroyed the economy of one of the few viable neighborhoods with a stupid bus project, using federal anti-poverty money, that is presently nonfunctional and does nothing but further snarl traffic.
