I second that. My family and I kind of got roped into moving here a while back...long story. But SERIOUSLY if you Googled Nebraska like I did and read all the reviews and are thinking about moving here, DO NOT DO IT. I did the same thing. I did the same research you are probably doing if you are reading this. I am telling you, just don't. I would guess that the people that are leaving all these sunny reviews about how great it is here more than likely grew up here, which is fine. Home is home, but if you are not from here (like me) and have never been here (like me), don't just up and move here. Sure, there is the feel-good idea of the quiet country life and all that, but it's not that. It's more of a find whatever job you can (because there aren't many choices) and become a slave making low wages, working 6-7 days a week, 12 hours a day because you don't have any other choice. Taxes are stupidly high, higher than the state I came from. The weather is also something to contend with. This winter has been "mild" I guess...if you call every morning below zero with 20-30 mph wind mild. The people are REALLY different, too. I don't have any idea where you live, of course, but I guarantee that unless you live somewhere that's already REALLY country, this place will seem strange. My family is from Appalachia and these people still seem, um, different. Maybe it's just the town I live in or where I work, I don't know. Nice isn't the word I would use. Once people found out that I wasn't from here, they acted different toward me, and when they found out specifically what state I moved from, they all but quit talking to me, unless it was to make jokes or say something rude. That is a general statement, there are some nice people here, but overall I haven't experienced all this great hospitality that I have read on the internet about. My kids generally hate it here, much for the same reasons I do. I will say that the public school system here seems ok and overall they do a good job with the kids, but no more so than anywhere else I have lived. But like I was saying, if you are from out of state and are looking to move here, DON'T. I have found that there is no good reason to move here. If you are relocating from within Nebraska, sure, but if you are not from here, Kansas, or some other Midwestern state, just stay where you are. Whatever you are going through, it will pass, and you will be glad you didn't move thousands of miles away from your friends and family only to find out that you moved to 1930's Poland.
