Beverly Hills 90210

All I know about Beverly Hills, CA is from the TV show "Beverly Hills 90210" and I never even watched the show.
I have driven in BH and it is a very nice community with lovely houses and clean environment (except for air pollution). However the impression I also get from this place is that the people here are snobish and think they are above everyone else. How did I come to this impression? Well when I drove through BH I asked someone for directions, but she looked at me weird and stated, "Do you belong here?". That said it all.
