Review of Palmetto Flor,

Palmetto's town keeps trying and developing.
Star Rating - 3/30/2008
I am a 40yr old single female who moved to Palmetto about 6 years ago. Since I have been here, I have seen the change in the town. Despite a bad economy, Palmetto keeps working on ways to improve it's town. Palmetto despite surrounding towns like Bradenton and Sarasota, actually has a community feel to it. This is not a town for the city chic or the snooty. Palmetto is no nonsense and has a down home feel. Being from the Northeast it took me time to become adjusted to the South and Palmetto. Things move slower here, but within time, I knew people in most stores I went to often and became to love Palmetto. Palmetto has some very new and nice restaurants. You will not find your local Starbucks here, but there are a few cafe type places to go. New stores are popping up all the time here.
If you are looking for a new start, and don't mind a slower pace, take advantage of the buyers market here and stay a bit. The surrounding towns are just within a 30 minute drive. In Palmetto you are close to St. Petersburg and Tampa- great if you want to commute there. There are many schools nearby Palmetto. (University's, colleges)
If you move here, beware, people are icy at first but once they get to know you about town, it gets better. This is not a chic town, but it has it's small town feel to it. Great marina's in town, and located to other towns easily. However, professional jobs are not huge here, you have to commute to Sarasota or a surrounding city or town. Also Palmetto has a new downtown Farmer's Market, and Music Festivals that come in every year at the Fairgrounds. As I mentioned, Palmetto keeps improving and growing.
This perspective comes from a person who is single, without kids.
It served me well for many years, and now, I am moving on to a new horizon.
Overall it's a great place to start if you are looking to relocate to this area.
