Village in Sullivan County New York
Star Rating - 12/25/2014
The Village of Monticello (pop. 6,500) is located in Sullivan County, New York (pop. 65,000.) Sullivan County had been a tourist destination since the 1940's (100 Miles from NYC)with about 400 hotels, 5000 Bungalow Colonies and a summer population of over 500,000. It has commonly been referred to as "The Boscht Belt." Unfortunately, for many reasons, the tourist economy caused the closing of most of the hotels and bungalow colonies being in the 1970's. Sullivan County has been an active destination for second homes, especially from NYC people. Sullivan County is absolutely beautiful. Mountains, lakes, small rivers and creeks, hunting, fishing skiing, snowmobiling, etc. are sublime. Recently, (December, 2014), Sullivan County has been granted a Las Vegas style casino as part of the State of New York's passing "gambling legislation." The casino is estimated to premier in 2017. It will be located about 3 miles from the Village of Monticello (County Seat) on the former property of the world famous Concord Hotel.
