Review of Shreveport Louisi,

Question on moving to Shreveport/Bossier City
Star Rating - 4/4/2016
Hi,

We are looking to retire in the Shreveport/Bossier City area. We are looking there because it is affordable. However, we are very concerned because of all the negative postings from other people.
1) Is the area really that bad when it comes to crime?
2) Are there areas to avoid?
3) Can someone rent a two bedroom apartment in a good area for $650 a month?
4) We currently live in a low-income area of Sacramento, CA which is predominantly African-American. We have encountered direct prejudice from our neighbors since we are white. We are hoping to avoid this problem in the Shreveport/Bossier City area.

Could someone point out what areas to avoid because of crime? We are just looking for a safe, quiet neighborhood where we can live our lives.

Thanks,

DC

Do not move to the Shreveport/Bossier area. There are a lot of close-minded and uneducated people that live here. The state and surrounding cities are full of crooked politicians and local officials. Taxes are high, the state is broke, and you can do better.

Not sure if you already made up your mind or not, but I'd avoid Shreveport/Bossier if you don't have a particular reason to come here (job, family, etc). You WILL be constantly reminded that you don't belong here, because you aren't from Shreveport/Bossier. Its so divided here that even Shreveport and Bossier people look at eachother like they are from different states. As far as being white, you'd have to live in Bossier, because you'll get more of what you didn't like if you live in Shreveport. Bossier has had a lot of "white flight" from Shreveport. I have no idea why people say the cost of living is low here. Rent is very high...just not California/New York high. My last apartment here was $1,100/month for a 2 bedroom 2 bath. You'll be living in a crappy place if you try to get anything under $1,000/month here. It's also very difficult to fly out, as its one of the most expensive airports in the country. Flights typically start at $500 and go up from there. People often drive 2-1/2 hours to Dallas or 1-1/2 hours to Monroe to save a little bit of money.
