Review of Pahrump Nev,

First Pahrump visit
Star Rating - 5/30/2013
During a recent trip to Las Vegas we decided to take the drive to Pahrump. It is a few years before retirement and looking for a low cost area, but close enough to a large metro for health care.
The drive was nice enough on a Saturday morning and the town seemed OK. We looked at a few houses for sale just to get an idea and prices were good. We stopped and had a soft serve ice cream at a little place on the Hwy to Kali, a quite busy little place.
Pahrump at first glance seemes like an OK place, reminded us of the little town of Pueblo West, CO only a bit bigger. We didn't talk to too many folks, everyone we saw seemed to be focused on getting somewhere.
As we drove out of town my wife said, "Pahrump seems like a decent place, but it is way too remote for my taste." Unfortunately that is the best part about the place IMHO.
The casinos, bars, and brothels did not bother us at all as we don't partake in those things. The lack shopping was OK for my wife because Vegas is close enough.
Personally I liked most of what I saw. From an outsider short visit, Pahrump seemed like a remote, quirky, out of the way place. Perfect for someone like me that likes a little space and to be left alone for the most part.
Unfortunately my wife did not share my opinion, she did not like the thought of "being stuck out in the middle of nowhere" if something happened to me, her words, not mine. Hopefully she is not planning on something happening to me and time soon. ;-)
For now Pahrump is off our list of places to retire to, but maybe we will visit again and look a bit longer.

Your post is helpful to us. Coming from the Wash./Balt. area to South Park 17 years ago, we are near that point where we need to leave our beautiful mountain home and get nearer to a city for the reasons you mention. But having had complete privacy for so long now, we can't deal with the thought of a city home. Pahrump may be the answer. Our daughter's work has taken her there several times and she likes it. She and her husband are quite like us, so even though I have not been to the town for 30 years, I'm anxious to get there for a look. There is some urgency, not a good thing, as we are about to become homeless in less than three weeks, having sold our home in one day, remote as it is, to a cash buyer with only 30 days to close.
