What Bert Has To Say About Jackson Metro Area

Jackson is a transportation center serving the agriculture industry, with cotton being a significant crop. The city is also a diverse manufacturing center for companies such as toolmaker Porter-Cable and Procter & Gamble. The town has a typical Southern-town feel with historic buildings and a vintage 1950’s bus station often used as a movie set.

Cost of living is low and the job base is expected to improve, as the area has received accolades for the quality of work force and growth potential. There is a popular minor league baseball team and a few other community events, but there isn’t much to do, nor much cultural interest.

The surrounding countryside is flat with sections of slightly rolling farmland and deciduous woods. The climate is continental with a subtropical influence. Summers have frequent thundershowers with regular temperatures above 90 degrees. Winters are changeable with periods of mild weather alternating with cool northerly air.

Although temperatures below zero seldom occur, cold snaps and passing storms can deliver significant snowfall. The spring storm-track location brings occasional severe weather such as destructive tornadoes. First freeze is late October, last is April 1.
