According to the San Diego PD, the crime rate has decreased steadily since 1990, and in 2009, we had the lowest crime rate since 1963. Your experience (and that of your neighborhood) is apparently not typical. As far as the crowds go, you're right it is more crowded. Commutes are worse in some places, better in others. I have not seen an hour drive, however, at any time, to any place (that was still in San Diego city), unless something extraordinary was wrong (massive accident + rush hour + lane reduction due to construction). I however, wholeheartedly agree that housing is absolutely too high when compared to the average income. WHY THIS IS ABUSIVE:
